PTSA MINUTES

  • THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER by Debbie Gumper at 6:30 pm          

 

  • APPROVAL OF AGENDA: agenda was approved

 

  • APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  February’s minutes were approved

 

  • PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:  Given by Ms. Layh: 

 

    • Parents urged to attend meeting regarding new school boundaries being held Thursday, April 2, 7:30 pm at Coronado High School in order to encourage the district to create more balanced numbers across the middle schools for next year.  To draw boundaries in a way which severely drops our enrollment puts Mann in jeopardy of losing good people and programs.
    •  Ideas for promoting Mann:  new DVD?  Teresa Allison promoting ‘shadowing’ for new students.  Students are best spokespersons for our school.  Very successful.  Will be making rounds to all feeder elementary schools promoting  Mann

 

·         ELECTION REPORT:  there were no opposing candidates for PTSA board positions.  Debbie Gumper was reelected pres, Kris Stanec will take over vice-pres, as Gwen Prater graduates along with Collin, Lori Taylor will remain treasurer and Stacey McCoy, secretary

 

·         TREASURER’S REPORT:  able to move monies from Teacher Appreciation Lunches and Crystal Apple to buy snacks for kids during CSAPS.  Will investigate more ‘creative budgeting’ to possibly provide scholarships for 5 8th grade students to attend end of year field trip to Eliche Gardens

 

  • IMPORTANT DATES:

 

Bingo:  April 3, 6:30 dinner, games at 7:15, new jokes! Raffle for new, 20” bike, $0.50

*if district 11’s evening programs are cancelled, so is bingo*

Girls volleyball home games:  April 7, 16, 23, 30, (B squad only,) and May 5

April 10: Movie during school, Dance after

April 17:  McDonalds Night fundraiser, 20% of $ spent return to Mann

May 2:  Carnival of Oz, Saturday 11-3, 15 booths for games with Oz themes outside, at Mann

May 7:  Icebreaker for new students

May 14:  Staff Appreciation:  ‘There’s no Substitute for You,’

May 15:  Battle of Books at Mann

May 26:  Academic Awards Night

May 27:  8th Grade Promotion, last day of school for 8th graders

May 28:  6th and 7th grades only, 5k run/walk, last day for 6th and 7th graders

 

  • BOX TOPS:  Stacey Sanchez is collecting box tops, school earns $0.10/per, collection cans in her classroom and in office 

 

  • NEXT MEETING: May 12, 7 am, library
